Every Day Brings Something New

Here's a look at the journal I'm working in on a daily basis. As I said before, it was inspired by Emily Falconbridge's gratitude journal. I made it by picking 52 pieces of paper, cardstock, envelops and whatever else I had on hand. It's not too big (as you can see next to Diesel who wanted to model it for you!) I stamped the dates and left enough room to journal one or two sentences about what was new in the day. So far, I've written about a new perspective of life, new art and a new restaurant I tried.

I really like how it came out and will probably do more journals like this in the future. My take on it forces me to look for something that is new to each day, however big or small that "thing" may be. A way to focus on the positive.

Here's a look at some of the pages...

And remember, you have until 10 EST tonight to get a chance at winning some of my art (and if you don't, do not fret... there will be more giveaways in the future.)

Daily Art Cards

Yesterday I wrote about the Daily Art Card Challenge (7/30/365.) These are the first 2 cards I made for this challenge. They are ATC size (2.5" x 3.5") which is a size I like to work on. Other participants are also using this format and some are doing square art. The size doesn't matter really. What matters is the fact that we create art cards on a daily basis. View what others are doing here.

First card is collage, drawing and hand-stitching. Second one is doodling, a bit of watercolour on the heart, rub-ons and stickers. Simple but at least I DID create something.

Don't forget to sign up for my giveaway. You have about 24 hours at the time of this post. Go to this post to leave your comment and be eligible.

Back to scrapbooking

It's been a while since I've done any real scrapbooking. This page has been waiting to be done for months (since last spring I think.) I finally decided to do it yesterday. To start off, I sanded the edges of the pictures because I felt they looked too perfect (_I_ don't even know what I mean by that but whatever...) I layered them over a cinema-themed paper and then assembled everything on another cinema-themed paper. Die-cuts, embellishments, journaling (in french) and voilà!

It's not my best and not my favourite but at least it's done and now I can move one. I also made an ATC last night for the 7/30/365 Art Card Project. I still don't now how long I'll do it but at least I'm doing it. I've also started a daily journal like this but instead of calling it a gratitude journal I call it "Every Day Brings Something New." So the idea is to write down something that I've done, seen, heard, etc during the day that was completely new. I'll try to post pictures soon.

Don't forget to comment here for the giveaway. I'll pick a winner Friday around 10 PM EST. Thanks for visiting!

A fresh start

There's nothing like the smell of a shiny new year! This is how it's starting.

Snow. And more snow! This winter, I'm learning to enjoy the season a bit more. I'm not a winter person. Or a summer person, though I do enjoy summer more than winter. I'm more of an in-between kinda girl. I like spring and all the renewal it brings. And I love autumn and the beauty of its colours. This is the first time that I have to walk to go to work. I've been looking forward to this for a long time. And so far, I'm really pleased with myself. Even though I don't like the cold, I keep walking the short 5 minutes to work every day (well not the past week or this current one as I'm on vacation) without complaining. And I walk back to my apartment after lunchtime (for my lunch break.) And then I do it again in the afternoon. Twenty minutes total in one day. And that's not counting the days where I fill in for one of my coworkers in the morning. I like this new little routine but it's not enough to keep me fit. I need to do more.

I don't like making resolutions. I don't really believe in them. Probably because I've never kept a single one in my life. But... there's no better time than now to start making changes in my life. I have a lot of projects in mind. Small ones, big ones, crazy ones. I like projects. I especially like starting new ones. But, this year, I have to learn to also see them through. To finish them. Complete past projects that have been abandoned, neglected and left to gather dust. This is a year for changes. I won't bore you with all the details. One thing I will tell you though is this: I plan to record my days one way or the other. I want to take more pictures of what is around me. I want to take more notes. I want to enjoy my life and have something to show for it in the future. I can't promise to blog every day but I will certainly try to do it more than I did in the last year. So, my goal is to try and double my posts. I hit 100 on December 30th 2007 (don't forget to comment here to be eligible for the giveaway) so I hope to be at (or close to) 300 by the same date this year. Here's hoping!

I hope everyone had a lovely new year celebration. Mine was spent with my family including one of my aunts and a dear friend of the family (she's pretty much family too!) We had yummy food and lots of laughs.

100th post means a giveaway

Yes! This is my 100th post. I started this blog a little less than a year ago and I managed to make it to post number 100. Woohoo! So, to celebrate I'm doing a giveaway! This is what you could win:

This is an altered canvas measuring 4" x 5". My latest creation. I really love how it came out and will probably be doing more of these in different sizes. But since this is a special occasion and I am learning to let go of my art, I'm giving this like creation away. Just comment on this post and I'll pick a winner on Friday evening. Good luck to everyone.

And Happy New Year!!!!!

Art Journal Pages

Remember this sketch?

Here's the final product:

Mostly coloured pencil, paints (acrylic and watercolour), crayons and ink. Masking tape (to cover a ripped part and to add texture) and DIMO tape.

This one was done after watching the Lemony Snicket movie. I thought the black and white drawing was missing something so I added a watercolour wash on the wall. I really like this drawing.

And finally, my Christmas page! It's slightly brighter than that in real life but not much. Lots of layers on this one. Drawing + journaling + wax crayons + ink wash + light gesso on top of all that + drawing again + journaling again + oil pastels + watercolour wash + glitter glue.

Christmas eve was very quiet: dinner with my family and gift exchanges. Received a violin, 2 PJs, a beautiful necklace, a tripod and remote controller for my camera amongst other things.

Christmas day with my mother's side of the family was nice. The only one who wasn't there was my brother. Even my cousin, whom we don't see very often, was there. All in all a nice holiday.

Watch this space for the next post and a surprise...
