A card for my boss - Une carte pour ma patronne

This week is Daycare Educator Appreciation week. Our boss is giving us a little something special every single day. Her boss (the principal) will be offering her a present as well so I volunteered to make the card. I wanted something simple that she would appreciate. She loves flowers and frog images so this stamp from Stampin' Up! (A Flower for All Seasons) was perfect for her. I simply colored the image with Prismacolor pencils, blended with odorless solvent and added a bit of Gold Liquid Pearl to the middle of the flowers (oops, looks like one of them needs to be fixed before I give the card!) The rest is pretty straight forward. I used papers from Making Memories.

(A Flower for All Seasons) était parfaite pour elle.

The winged book - Le livre ailé

To make the winged book, I followed instructions from Making Handmade Books: 100+ Bindings, Structures & Forms by Alisa Golden. I found this book at my local art supply store and I could not put it down. It has so many great ideas to make books and journals along with excellent instructions and information. If you want to make your own books, this is definitely a good resource.

Back to the winged book itself. I used papers from Stampin' Up! but after folding the pages, I realized that the ledger patterns ended up on the diagonal. Not exactly what I had in mind. But since this is my prototype, I now know how to place and cut my paper to use it properly in this type of book. I decided to go for wrapped hard covers and love the effect. When closed, the book measures 3" x 6"; fully opened, it's 36" long.

Today is my mom's birthday! Happy Birthday Mom!
I made this card for her using Stampin' Up! papers and a Sweet November stamp. The image was coloured with dye inks + blender pen as well as Prismacolor pencils blended with odorless solvent and a paper stump. The card is bigger than the usual size I make because I had to included a pocket on the inside where we could slip some money. I made the envelop to match but forgot to take a picture.

Scrapbooking October 2008 - Collimager Octobre 2008

Two years ago, on Thanksgiving day (it's in October here in Canada,) my mother and I went for a walk in a nature park close to hour home. I brought my camera to capture the beautiful colours of nature. I have had these photos printed all this time, waiting to be turned into a scrapbooking page or two. And last night, I did just that. The papers are from K & Company, the cardstocks, ink and marker from Stampin' Up! and the brads from American Crafts.

A quick post to show you a card I made for one of my friends (who also happens to be my boss.) Her birthday was last week but I didn't have time to make a card until this weekend. She loves cats so I thought this stamp from Stampin' Up! (Pun Fun) was perfect for her. Behind that card, you get a sneak peek of two other cards I made for two other friends but I won't show these until I've given them.

This is the card I made for my brother. It's his birthday today but he received the card yesterday.

Sometimes, when I want to make a card and I don't have an idea, I look for a sketch or colour combination to get me started. Well, for this one, I did both. The colour combination is from the Color Throwdown challenge #106: soft sky, chocolate chip, kraft and certainly celery. I added white and silver brads but the rest is that exact combination. The sketch I used is from Friday Sketchers #116.

All supplies (except for the brads) are from Stampin' Up!

I can't believe that this is only my second scrapbooking page this year (the first one was back in January!) At the beginning of the year, one of my goals was to scrapbook more. So, to achieve this goal, I will be doing at least one page per month until the end of the year. And I will mostly be using photos that are already printed.

This page is about an event that took place in June of 2007. I had raised money for Leucan and was participating in their Shaved Heads challenge. I had wanted to do that for a long time and that year was the right time to do it. Especially since I knew someone who had a very sick granddaughter at the time. In fact, the big white block is an envelop in which are letters and a photo from that person and her family. It was a very emotional experience for me and I was happy to be surrounded by my friends, my family and even some of my students.

For this layout, I used Stampin' Up! cardstock in Real Red, Basic Black and Whisper White as well as patterned paper from The Write Stuff Specialty DSP. The alphabet stamps are from a discount store, I believe and the brads are American Crafts.

CeeCee's Colour Challenge #4

I decided to play again for this round. Stamps, flowers and grey/green cardstock from Stampin' Up! The rest is from my stash. It's simple. Now I just need to find an envelop to use with it!

CeeCee's Colour Challenge

My friend Catherine (also known as CeeCee) has issued a colour challenge on her blog. This is her third one and I decided to participate in this one.

I don't have the Stampin' Up! colours so I improvised with what I had on hand. I did use a stamp and a rub-on from SU! though! The stamp says: Always on my mind - forever in my heart. Pretty, no?

The card is pretty simple but I like it.

Chaque fleur...

I'm signed up on quite a few swaps these days over at ATCSforALL. So that means, working on art for other people. Of course the Daily Art Cards are made for me but it's still not "creating for the sake of creating." So last night, while talking and hanging out with mom, I decided to make a card. All papers, stamps and ribbon are Stampin' Up! Brads are from my mom's stash. What do you think? The saying goes: Every flower is a smile from nature. Works for any occasion! I'm hoping to make a few cards to maybe sell. One of my co-workers bought a card from me friday and said she might want some more. Fun!

I've been doing a lot of extra hours at work these past weeks. Makes me happy because it means more money! I'm going in again tomorrow morning for one hour so one of my coworkers can get some rest. I have no kids and no man in my life so I get plenty of rest! Ha! Now I'm gonna go work on my first pages for a chunky book swap!

Synchronicity

Remember when I was saying that I've taken the No Stuff challenge? I'm really struggling right now. My favourite online shop just got some new goodies and I am SO tempted to treat myself. Maybe I will... just a little bit... I'll keep thinking about it until the weekend.

I've been noticing a lot of synchronicity (or synCROWnicity as Pam puts it!) lately. I've been having a lot of strange dreams and I'm sure there's a message somewhere in there. Recurring themes and images. One word that's been coming back for the past couple of days is Renaissance. As in rebirth (and once it was as the historical period.) It was even in one of my dreams. I remember that it was written on a black board in a classroom (I've been dreaming a lot about being back in school lately.) It said "entre deux renaissances" which basically translates to "between two rebirths." Hmm. Interesting. In my quest to living a greener life, I've had the idea to make my own net bags for fruits and veggies instead of using those flimsy plastic bags they have at the grocery store. A few days after I had that thought, JoyceAnn was talking about the same thing on her blog. Little things. Big things. Lots of synchronicity. I'm loving it.

So far this week, I've really been watching what I eat. Not counting calories or anything like that but I make sure to eat enough from all food groups and especially fruits and veggies. I'm doing really well. Also, today was my fourth day in a row that I've been walking, and not just the walk back and forth to work. At least 10 minutes each day. I'm feeling good. I'm enjoying it. Life is beautiful.

Before I go, I want to direct you to Lisa Vollrath's upcoming countdown. And today's image is last night's Art Card. Made with Stampin Up! papers and Amercian Crafts rub-ons. Using up that stuff I have on hand.

Christmas Eve

Tonight I'm having dinner with my parents and my brother and as is our tradition, we are opening gifts together. Tomorrow, I'm going with my parents to celebrate with my mom's side of the family. My brother isn't going with us because he is working.

These small packages will be sent after Christmas. I stamped on the envelops with stamps from the Carte Postale set from Stampin' Up! I love the bird and the fleur-de-lys. They are just perfect!

Merry Christmas... and watch this space in 2 posts (hopefully before the new year!)

2-page layout

Last wednesday, I went to Catherine's house for her Stampin' Up! "open house" party. It was fun. We did 2 make-n-takes. We received a piece of cardboard cake with goodies inside. And I won a paper pack! I usually don't win anything! Yippie! So these two pages are done with said papers from the pack. I love the colours! This is for my 8.5" x 8.5" album. I'm liking this 2-page spread a lot! What do you think?
